Satanic serial killer or insanity plea to avoid death? In 2014 Miranda Barbour, 19 and her 22 year old husband Elytte were arrested for murder, but what makes this case more intriguing is when arrested Miranda claimed she had killed 20-100 people between 2008-2013. Born in Small town Alaska in 1994, Miranda Barbour seemed to have a loving family, well she had loving parents. At 4 years old, her army veteran sexually abused her (he is now in jail). This devastated the family, but things slowly seemed to start getting back together and stronger until Barbour turned 12. She ran away for the first time and fell into the arms of a 25 year old man named ‘Forrest’ he was a satanist. By the time she was 12 she described herself as a satanic worshiper. Miranda claims she killed a man not long after joining, he was indebted to the cult and her ‘master’ told her to. Her parents would always find her and bring her home, but worries arose when she told her parents 'Forrest owns me now’. Forrest had also branded the back of her next with a swatstika and her thighs with his name. After becoming addicted to heroin, claims of prostitution in the cult and a horrific home abortion her parents sent her to institutions in Anchorage, throughout her teenage years. Later on her parents divorced, this had an impact on Miranda who was sent to live with relatives in North Carolina, things looked promising until she met Elytte Barbour. Elytte was a 22, college grad born in 1991. The pair hit it of, Miranda was already pregnant and soon gave birth. Within 3 weeks of dating the pair were married. It’s believed she got him into satanism. The murder in question was a man named Troy LaFerror. Before November 11th, 2013, Miranda posted an ad on Craigslist “sex for payment”, Elytte denied this but she claimed it was for $100. She went to meet him at a local mall, after agreeing on a price the pair drove 7 miles to sunbury, just outside Philadelphia. Whilst she got out of the car, Elytte was hidden in the back, and strangled him with rope. Whilst tied Miranda stabs the man 20 times and the body was dumped in a ditch. After the murder the pair go to a strip club to celebrate his 22nd birthday. In 2014 when they were on trial prosecutors were seeking the death penalty, Miranda was pleading for her life. Which raises the question were her serial killer claims a way to seem insane and avoid the lethal injection? The two pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder in turn to avoid death and are sentenced to life without parole.
